Well-being Tips - Creating a Relaxing Space

One way to help improve your well-being at home is to create yourself a relaxing space.

Whether you have a ten-bedroom mansion or a one-bedroom apartment you can make small adjustments to create yourself a relaxing environment.

1. Pick Your Space

The first step is to pick a room or an area of a room that you can dedicate to creating a relaxing environment.

This may be an entire room or sun room in your garden, or it may be a corner with your favourite chair or a small table. Regardless of the amount of space you can sacrifice for this project, you can make a relaxing space that you can escape to.

2. Organise Your Space

Make sure everything in your new space has a home so you aren’t cluttering the surfaces or areas in your space.

Organise your things into three piles, Keep, Chuck, Sell/Donate. BE BRUTAL!   Yes I know that scarf that you just found under the chair is really cute but you haven’t missed it for the last two years so you don’t need it.

3. Increase Natural Light

Natural light helps our bodies produce Vitamin D, improves our circadian rhythms and sleep patterns, helps us to focus, enables us to get more done, and even makes us happier.

So open those curtains, raise the blinds let that natural light in wherever you can.

If you prefer the cosiness of a darker ambience, use candles, or mood lighting instead.

4. Use Natural Elements

Using natural elements and colours is a great way to keep a room grounded and relaxing. Use natural woods, stones and plants. Use nature as your inspiration for your colour schemes, think about the rolling waves of the sea, and the green of leaves.

5. A Bit of You

Most importantly, your relaxing space should be a bit of you. Personalise your space with things that make you feel happy, that spark joy in you just by looking at them. This might be artwork, photographs, or your favourite mug. Anything that lets you express your personality in a way that makes you relax.
