Treating Anaemia

Treating Anaemia

What is Anaemia?

Anaemia is a deficiency of haemoglobin in the blood, (oxygen-carrying chemical of red blood cells). Some symptoms of anaemia can present themselves as:

  • Feeling weak
  • Headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Fatigue
  • Breathlessness

Iron is an essential mineral of haemoglobin, making the most common cause of anaemia is iron deficiency. This may be a result of:

  • Poor diet
  • Excessive blood loss (such as from menstrual bleeding)
  • Failure to absorb iron

Other causes of Anaemia include:

  • Vitamin B12 deficiency
  • Chronic diseases such as tuberculosis, rheumatoid arthritis, chronic renal failure and cancers.
  • Pregnancy
  • Bone marrow disease

Which Holistic Treatments May Help with Anaemia?

Homeopathy

Remedies are prescribed to the patient according to their needs. The practitioner may also recommend a varied diet, rich in vitamin B12 and iron.

Nutritional Therapy

Anaemia is usually caused by nutritional deficiencies of vitamins and minerals such as Iron, B12, B6, folic acid or zinc. It is particularly common among women who suffer from heavy menstrual cycles which may lead to excessive blood loss.

Chinese Herbalism

Chinese herbalism can be particularly good for iron-deficient anaemia as many herbs act as a blood tonic. Herbalists will diagnose the cause of the anaemia and overall condition using pulse and tongue diagnosis.

Spiritual healing

Spiritual healing can improve the body’s ability to cure itself, therefore helping with issues such as poor iron absorption or improper production of haemoglobin.

Acupuncture

An acupuncturist may suggest moxibustion, which can address any underlying weaknesses or energy blockages.

kinesiology

Kinesiology can be used to determine iron deficiency and check with body which supplements may be most suitable.
