How to stay focused at work

How to stay focused at work

The short answer:

  • Music
  • Oils
  • Crystals
  • Time blocking
  • Passion

Does anyone else's mind run at 100 miles an hour?

Juggling a small business and a small baby is no easy task. I have an endless to-do list and not enough time to do them. My brain gets distracted on the next task rather than concentrating on what I should be doing. So how do I overcome it to stay focused?

  • Classical Music - at the risk of sounding about 80 years old, Classical Music really helps me focus. It gives me just enough noise to keep the brain engaged but not so much that I stop what I’m doing to have a disco in the shop and belt out songs when no one is around.

  • Essential Oils - I religiously put on the ‘Study’ Remedy to Roll onto my pulse points when I need to sit down and concentrate. Teamed up with the ‘Focus’ essential oil blend in the diffuser, this powerhouse team has me laser-focused.

  • Crystals - Agate, Ametrine, Carnelian, Clear Quartz, Flourite, Hematite, Smokey Quartz. All the concentration I can have with these bad boys! I have them in an Organza bag in my work bag, and I pull them out when I need that extra ‘pay attention’!

  • Time blocking - Scheduling in time for tasks that need brain power stops me from procrastinating and giving an hour to something you don’t really want to do doesn’t sound so bad, especially if you get a cup of tea at the end.

  • Passion - Find some passion. Ask yourself why you are doing this? What is the purpose? What will you get out of it? For me one of the jobs I always put off is invoicing. Why do I do it? Because a business needs money. Still need to be a better reason? What can I treat myself to when I’m done? A chocolate muffin. Now we’re talking. If you can’t find the drive to do something naturally, reward yourself when you finish so you have something to work towards.
